The Woman in the Stilettos

Imagine a woman, sitting alone on a street corner. She’s been there at the same street corner for years. Life had thrown her a disastrous loss, things she didn’t expect. She lost everything she had; her family, her job, and ultimately her will to live. She looks empty. Her heart is beating, her body is alive, but every part of the inside of her died long ago. People pass by the same woman everyday totally appalled at her appearance, the long stringy hair, the smell of pee. She has become another fixed eye-sore on the way into work that will always be there.

Now imagine the woman who made it to the top. She makes bankroll .She wears an Armani suit and Stilettos everyday. Her hair is perfect, teeth with new veneers and a body that wouldn’t stop.
As she calls it an evening and gets in her bed, she spots the bible on the corner of her nightstand and recalls the words of her pastor this Sunday at church. An odd time to remember, since she doesn’t normally think about God until she gets into the parking lot on Sunday, but nonetheless, she remembers.

“We thank God continually because when you received the Word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the Word of God, which is at work in you who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13

She has been a Christian for her entire life. She is a good person. But one thing has been lacking. Life. The Words of a Jesus have become like the woman sitting on the corner. Empty. Common. Dead.

It’s up to me to want this Word to be relevant. It’s up to me to do something with it. “You accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the Word of God, which is at work in you who believe.”
