As I  was wrapping up my work as an insurance adjuster, I got a call from Fern.

“Miss Heidi, are you comin?”

“No, Ms. Nelson you missed your apppointment and we will see you Friday.”

“Miss Heidi, I promise you a cold drink if you can come today”

“Thank you Ms. Nelson, but it’s late and we need to reschedule..”

“Miss Heidi, please!”

I juggled my schedule with my dispatcher, this insured sounded very anxious.  As I was driving I noticed I was getting myself deep into the projects area and I found myself a little nervous.  I prayed..  As I turned down a little winding old street, alas this huge house was sitting in it’s grandeur.  I’m sure many years ago this house was a masterpiece.  It needs tender loving and care.  As I pulled up beside the white picket fence, I heard the words.

“Is that you Miss Heidi?”  and out came Fern.  She was a little woman of stature but had a smile that could melt wax.  We walked out to her car and unfortunately her car was a total loss.  But that’s not the story here..

As I wrapped up my paperwork.  Fern had my bottle of ice cold water waiting up on her porch, but just one thing to get it.

“Miss Heidi, Come sit with me for a minute.”
I looked at my clock and said “I really got to leave, I have family commitments.”

“Miss Heidi, just a moment please”

I obliged.  We sat and talked about her roses, and her Texas heritage and how to stay so svelte at the age of 83.  She talked about her 25 granchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and her 3 great great grandchildren.  But then it happened….

Fern asked me if I knew Jesus.

She talked about Jesus for a long time.

She told me always to be thirsty for Jesus.  Take Every moment in life to talk about Jesus.  She giggled many times as she talked about her God.

I’ll remember Fern, as she clipped one of favorite roses for me to take home.

I’ll remember at any age, talking about Jesus cannot stop.

Thank You Fern for reminding me.
